Our Story

StoryHeights Church began in 2010 when God put the dream of StoryHeights Church in Tyler and Crystal’s heart.  So they partnered with the Association of Related Churches for coaching, networking and funding to launch this dream.   And then the story had its genesis in March 2011 when they moved from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Boston, MA with their two boys.

Knowing only one family they had met on Facebook and another couple they met on Twitter before moving, they started meeting around a park bench in Watertown with just two other families that they randomly met each Sunday afternoon that summer.  But it wasn’t long before it became clear that God was gathering people to this new community.   On Sunday nights Tyler and Crystal opened up their home for Family BBQs, and packed out their Watertown backyard with as many as 30 people sharing a meal.

Wanting to build a community church that would someday meet weekly, we held our first monthly gathering on September 18th in the AMC theater to pray, prepare and envision weekly services. To our amazement 68 people turned out and two people gave their hearts to Jesus! So we met monthly in October, November and December.

After this fall season and excitement lingering, we knew it was time for a weekly service, so we began meeting weekly on January 15th, 2012, the coldest day in Boston in years, with only 33 people.  It was an awesome day!  It was seriously cold outside, but God’s presence was real and exciting,  and the church’s story we see being written today began that day.

During 2012, we’ve been building the church, investing in the people God gave us by developing GROW groups, StoryHeights Kids, StoryHeights Sisterhood as well as our Page Turners Purpose Track and serving together as a church our city with SERVOLUTION.

It’s been an incredible story thus far, and we look forward to all God will write in our many chapters.
